E & S Masonry has continually contracted as a Union Contractor in Northern California for 55 years. How We Started

The company’s founder, Elwood Smith, started in the Masonry business in 1958 with his first Masonry Contractor’s License (License C-29 #197887). In these early years, he specialized in residential and small commercial contracting.

By 1965 the business had grown to work primarily on large commercial masonry projects. At this time, Elwood Smith took steps to incorporate E & S Masonry, Inc. (License # 275807). For 36 years, Elwood led the company personally, specializing in large, often complex masonry projects in association with many of Northern California’s premier commercial general contractors and architects.

In 1994, after 36 years of Masonry contracting, Elwood felt it was time for some help. He looked to two long-time excellent employees, Ron Bennett and Larry Kitchuck, who both shared the same views of quality work and on-time completion as himself. That same year, Elwood incorporated as E & S Masonry Corporation (License #562066) with these two men as partners. Elwood Smith remained President, Ron Bennett became General Manager and Vice President, and Larry Kitchuck became Field Superintendent.

Present Day Leadership

As these three business identities, E & S Masonry has become one of the leading commercial masonry contractors in Northern California. Our work can be seen in commercial buildings and structures designed for such well-known customers as Pixar Animated Studios, Nordstrom, Sears, Lucasfilm’s Skywalker Ranch, and Big Rock Ranch, Chiron, Mills-Peninsula Hospital, San Francisco Juvenile Hall, and many other San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California retail, hi-tech businesses, colleges, libraries, schools, civic and government organizations.
